It’s amazing how quickly things come around, and it was hard to believe another year had past when we walked through the doors of the Crown Hotel in Harrogate on Saturday 30th November, for our annual Christmas party.
This year there was a change of venue, as we had out-grown the previous one. this year we had over 90 folks attend the party, which for 2013 paid homage to the Giro d’Italia. It was safe to say that pink was the colour of the night, with most people incorporating the colour into their party outfit somewhere.
The evening went extremely well, with food and drink going down very easily. Speeches were delivered by DS James Lovell and DSL Sarah Cave, who both reflected on an amazing years cycling for both the club overall and the Ladies section.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the Golden Handle Bars Award, which this year went to Pete Flynn. Unfortunately Pete was not able to make the party, so Karl Moseley stepped in to accept the award on Pete’s behalf.
Pete’s riding statistics were quite phenomenal, and as such was a deserved winner of the award.
Here are Pete’s year to date stats:
YTD – 4,370 miles and climbed 374,131ft
July – 1,052 miles and climbed 102,415ft
Big Rides:
La Marmotte, Raid Dolomites, Raid Majorca, Dales Grimpeur, Etape du Dales, Fred Whitton in appalling conditions
Summitted the following Cols:
Col du Glandon, Croix du Fer, Telegraphe, Galibier, Alpe d’Huez, Passo du Giau, Tre Cime, Tre Croci, Passo Stelvio, Passo di San Bernandino, Orient, Soller, Puig Mayor and Sa Colabra
The evening was rounded off by more drinking and dancing. A great end to a great year for the club, as we all look forward to what promises to be an amazing year for cycling in Yorkshire in 2014.
