Stainburn and Almscliffe Crag – 30th June 2011

8 of us set off out via Brackenthwaite Lane in the direction of Norwood Hill again, except that this time we went in the opposite direction and rode all the way down it (having missed the turn off for Dob Park). The descent was a lot of fun apart from the potholes threatening to throw you off. At the bottom (Farnley) we turned left towards Stainburn and Ronnie gave us a demonstration of how to sprint up a hill. None of us managed to copy him.

We rode on to Little Almscliffe Crag but instead of turning to Harrogate we went down to the A658, crossed over and turned left up towards Weeton and Dunkeswick. About here we encountered a suicidal bunny who kept trying to run under our front wheels. A lot of braking saved the bunny and almost brought down all the riders behind Karl. Oops. Sorry. Right off the A61 towards Kirkby Overblow but we did the steep hill at Kearby first. Gold/Silver/Bronze to Darrell,Karl, & Martin P. Then back towards Burn Bridge via the usual back lane.

4 of us enjoyed a recovery pint in The Black Swan before heading home. Approx 30 miles at 16 mph or so average.
