Hope you are well.
I just wanted to write to you to let know about some plans for the next steps in the Cappuccino Club’s evolution.
So far this year, we have attracted a lot of new members and have taken part in some great events, as well as having some great club rides. As our rides are now averaging approximately 15 riders at any one time, myself and a few other members believe that we should become affiliated to one of the country’s cycling bodies and as a result have decided to affiliate ourselves to British Cycling. This however incurs a cost of £88.
The benefits of joining British Cycling are:
Third Party Liability Insurance to a value of £10,000,000
Free copies of BC’s publication and the BC Handbook
Free Bronze level membership for all club members for the first year
For more information on what you get with Bronze level membership, please visit the BC website at: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/membership/benefits
Up to now, I have personally absorbed some of the club running costs, mainly associated with maintaining the website, which have been relatively small. However, I’m not prepared to fund the BC membership. This means that we are going to have to formalise a few things, particularly around club finances.
I have therefore got agreement from a majority of current riders to look to introduce an club membership fee of £5 to cover these costs.
I am in the process of setting up a club bank account and once this is done I will be writing to you all again to complete a membership application form, along with a payment of £5 to cover these small club running costs for the remainder of the year. We will then look to renew our membership to the club at the start of each calendar year from there on.
It is mine and other members intention to keep the club as open as possible, so at the moment, I don’t think there is a need to have a committee, but I have asked and got agreement from some members to act as signatories on the club bank account once set-up to ensure that more than one person has to sign any cheques etc. I also propose to keep some basic club accounts so that members have got confidence that their money is not being used in an unauthorised way.
I know few club members have kindly helped with organising a few things already this year, and I am keen for member involvement to continue to take some of the burden off of my shoulders 😉
Anyway…I hope that keeps you all up to date with things and if you have any questions, comments or concerns, please let me know…details below!!
Thanks again for all your support up to now, this club is really starting to turn into something amazing and I think we will all agree that it is onwards and upwards…
Don’t forget our 2nd Birthday Ride and Family Picnic on Sunday 10th July. See the website or Facebook page for more details.
