Dallowgill – 1st May 2011

A record 15 of us set out (but only 11 came back).

We headed out of Harrogate via Knox Mill Lane to Hampthswaite, Clint and left onto the Pateley Bridge road.  We turned right to climb up Stripe Lane only to hear the sound of Paul’s rear mech-hanger commiting suicide.  This gave everyone a rest as Nick and Malcolm attempted a repair, whilst the rest of us worked on our tan lines.  After a temporary repair Paul phoned home and turned back to meet his personal team car (wife and kids).  We then rode up to Brimham Rocks and promptly lost James L who was feeling unwell.  The rest of us then enjoyed a stunning climb up onto the windswept Dallow Gill Moor. On to Kirkby Malzeard and a late coffee stop at the Spa Gardens, Ripon where we fought for a table amongst a crowd of WheelEasy and Otley CC.

Due it being a bit late we opted for the direct route back via Bishop Monkton and then also lost Nick and James O for no apparent reason.  The remaining 11 battled the head wind back through Farnham and then used up any remaining energy trying and failing to catch Malcolm up Knaresborough hill.

50 miles at 14.7 mph (oh, we also had 2 punctures as well !)
