Today’s Sunday club ride saw the Cappuccino Club join up with the Shutt VR Northern Club Ride, which kicked off from Ilkley on a warm, but very windy summer’s morning.
The Shutt VR’s were heading on a long Dales extravaganza, but we decided to shorten the route due to time constraints. We all made our way out of Ilkley, past the golf club and on to Bolton Abbey, before taking a left up the lane past Hesketh before climbing out on to the moor above Embsay, before we descended to meet the Skipton to Grassington Road.
At this point we were joined by a couple of riders who had been dropped by another ride. We turned towards Grassington before leaving the Shutt VR ride at Rylstone and heading towards Burnsall. We took some lovely quiet lanes to Burnsall where we had a much needed coffe stop at the Wharfe View Rea Rooms (with about another 50 cyclists).
After the coffee stop we dropped down through Wharfedale through Appletreewick, past the Cavendish Pavillion at Bolton Abbey, before re-tracing our earlier route returning back into Ilkley.
Despite the wind it was a great ride, a bit hilly and very windy. Route details: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/39155310
