What a contrast a day can make…yesterday was warm and sunny and as we met outside St Aidans tonight, there was a distinct chill in the air. The tights and 3/4 shorts were back on along with jackets for most apart from a few rule 5 hardy souls!!
A route out towards Marton-cum-Grafton was opted for after the weekend’s hilly exploits. We made our way out of Harrogate through Knaresborough, Lingerfield, Staveley and Minskip. The going was not that easy into a gusty headwind, but our riding discipline helped with everyone taking their turn on the front.
We crossed the A1 at Boroughbridge and head towards Aldborough, but turned right down a back lane towards Marton. In the distance the sky was giving a good display for sunset and before we knew it we were in the centre of Marton. We then made our way onto the old A1 where we decided to have a go at some group riding drills. Everyone singled-out and took turns on the front to take the wind. Not quite Team Sky, but we kept it together at about 24mph for a few miles before the group split.
After re-grouping at The Bridge Inn, we made our way back to Harrogate through Spofforth, Follifoot and Rudding Lane to complete a very good night ride. 33 miles in 2 hours.
