Bolton Abbey – 19th June 2011

Four of us gathered in the mist at St Aidans, including two who had done the GYBR yesterday (plaudits to Alex Pritchard and Malcolm Yates) and headed towards the closed off A59 at Blubberhouses via Beckwithshaw, Fewston and Timble.  The mist had changed to full on rain and as three of us had foolishly followed the forecast we only had our Cappuccino gilets to keep us warm – which left us wet if smart.  As both the A59 and West End road were closed, we went up Duck Lane to the Stonehouses and fiddled our way through to A59 via Thruscross, down to Bolton Abbey and a deserved coffee as we were utterly drenched.

Having failed to warm up, we headed off up over Skyholme Lane to Stumps Cross, Duck Lane, Menwith Lane, Hampsthwaite and home, fortunately under brighter skies. Nb Garmin is the Darley variant – a cheeky 85km in poor weather. Nick Paterson was supposed to have joined us but texted Alex to say that he had got up early that morning and had done his exercise :). Malcolm admitted to be more miserable than normal – lol. Pete
